A BI engagement starts with understanding your data landscape before touching any tooling. The most common reason BI projects fail is that dashboards are built before the underlying data quality, completeness, and business logic questions are answered. We address this through a structured onboarding process that validates assumptions before we build. Our five-phase onboarding covers everything from initial data inventory through to production pipelines and team training. Each phase has clear deliverables and a sign-off gate before the next phase begins. The five phases:
  1. Data audit — We map your existing data sources: what systems hold relevant data, what APIs or export mechanisms are available, what data quality issues exist, and what the gaps are between available data and desired reporting. This produces a written data source inventory with quality ratings and recommended approach for each source.
  2. Source mapping and schema design — We design the target data model: how source data will be transformed, what the unified schema looks like, and how business logic (revenue attribution, cohort assignment, funnel classification) will be applied. The schema is documented and approved before pipeline development begins.
  3. Pipeline build — We configure Airbyte connectors for each data source, set up transformation layers, and load data into ClickHouse or your existing data warehouse. Pipelines are scheduled, monitored, and alerting is configured for failures.
  4. Dashboard design and build — Metabase dashboards are built to the agreed specification, with charts, filters, and drill-down paths designed for the specific audience. Marketing, operations, and executive views are typically built as separate dashboards with appropriate role-based access controls.
  5. Training and handoff — Your team is trained on how to use Metabase for self-service reporting, how to interpret the dashboards, and how to request new metrics or views. Pipeline and dashboard documentation is provided. Ongoing support retainers are available.
What you need to get started:
  • Access to your key data sources (CRM, ad accounts, e-commerce platform, existing analytics)
  • Clarity on the business questions your BI setup needs to answer
  • A named internal contact who can approve the data model and schema decisions
